Topic: Why I Should Become a Teacher of English

Obtaining a wonderful job career is what everyone wants to reach in his or her academic life. People expect to receive different positions based on their personal qualifications, educational backgrounds, and career experiences. I wish to invest my qualification and competency in the educational field, particularly to be a Teacher of English due to several main reasons.

Firstly, teaching and contributing knowledge to new generations have been my philosophy since I was a child. I started my career as an educator, who always shared my knowledge with everyone around me when I was in high school, grade 12. More interestingly, I have been pursuing this career for more than three years in various private institutions. Those experiences have inspired me to maintain it for a long-term period because I enthusiastically enjoy it while I put my best effort into real practice with different students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Keeping upgrading my skills toward my goal setting is the second reason why I should choose this occupation as my profession. As you have already known, this type of position can lead us to enhance our competency through our practical instructing and researching more information related to the lessons to be taught. More importantly, it is a great time for both teachers and pupils to share knowledge and comprehension with one another during study times. For instance, a teacher can acquire innovative and creative ideas from his or her students while involving them in the exact situation.

To take a part in developing and empowering the new generations directly in society is considered another cause of my becoming a teacher. It is recognized that instructors play a very vital role in helping people in the community to be potential and dynamic citizens in the country. In addition, I would like to take my special opportunity to offer my knowledge and skills regarding the English language to fulfill the pupils’ needs and objectives by guiding and empowering them to acquire useful knowledge. They will then continue to transfer it to another fresh generation as well. By doing so, I strongly believe that the new generations will be equipped with broad knowledge and high qualification, and they will then become potential and awesome youths in society.

Finally yet importantly, obtaining a salary to support my personal life and family expenses is my last reason for selecting this occupation. It is realized that people need money to purchase any products, they want and to survive delightedly and meaningfully with their family as nature assigns. I basically believe that my salary which is earned from my career as a Teacher of English is highly sufficient to support my daily living expenses, and it is really necessary to assist my parents as well as my siblings.

To sum up, the four primary points mentioned above are my practical reasons, which highly encourage me to be an English Teacher. Without reservation, it is considered that it is one of the most fantastic careers among the others. As a result, you are powerfully and persuasively recommended to choose this occupation as your prior profession in case you are currently concerned about your future job career.

TopicIn today's competitive world, many families find it necessary for both parents to go out to work. While some say the children in these families benefit from the additional income, others feel they lack support because of their parent's absence.

Because of the fast development of the current world, going out to work is considered a crucial means for both parents. Some people do believe that the children in these types of families obtain many benefits while others might think that they receive less support from their lovely and warm families. However, I personally believe that children benefit a lot from their parents because of three main reasons.

Firstly, children are able to get independence when their parents do not stay with them. Actually, it is crucial when they start deciding at a very young age so that when they get older, they can trust themselves in making decisions. For example, one of my friends left his family to live in a pagoda in order to pursue his study at a lower-secondary school; by doing so, he felt much more confident than the other students in choosing a college major. Furthermore, children have self-solution whenever they encounter some issues as they get used to coping with these.

Secondly, children can get enough freedom due to the fact that all things are considered to do themselves without someone assisting them in doing any work. In fact, they do not hesitate to do their jobs since they do not depend on someone else. In addition, they can do whatever they wish without any reservation.

Finally, some people might feel that children are not fully supported by parents or guardians as a result of getting far away from their parents. However, they do not think about the children's future. Do your parents feed and stay with you forever? It is obvious that no one supports you whenever; therefore, they personally have to build themselves to get used to all circumstances.

In conclusion, children can acquire a range of benefits from the challenging globe when their parents go out to work. Thus, by going to the work of parents, children can receive independence and freedom which are extremely vital for their future.

Sarin's Chevening Journey 2022

My dream to study in the United Kingdom (UK) for not just a day, a month, a year but over a decade. Before receiving such an exceptionally prestigious scholarship, I went through a great deal of anxiety, stress, and effort with determination, persistence, and support. WHY and HOW...?

I've been inspired by my dad's words: "We are born impoverished. If we have the opportunity to study, we should go ahead until reaching the highest level of education possible because only education can lift us out of poverty and provide us with more opportunities to contribute to the development of our society". This has prompted me to consider my long-held desire to study abroad. My mom, on the other hand, did not have the chance to attend formal education, but she was the most dedicated woman in encouraging me to pursue my higher education.

Due to  my family's precarious financial situation, I had to work as a waiter in a restaurant while attending university to supplement my income. I remembered that I could only earn $4-$5 per day working from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.. I frequently had to ask teachers to leave class early, so I could go to work on time (all students left at 5 p.m., but I only had to leave at 3 or 4 p.m.). Every time when I stood up and walked out of class, some of my classmates clapped hands with the words "go again, go again!". In this sense, I did not expect to be a top student. The most important thing was to have adequate time to work in order to help the family's financial status. For that reason, my academic outcome was not as good as that of others, and some subjects had to be retaken following supplementary exams due to poor attendance and participation.

While pursuing a bachelor's degree, I applied for a scholarship overseas nine times (seven failed in the first round and two failed in the interview stage). My dream of studying abroad nearly disappeared as a result of countless failures and a lack of motivation to move on. I then began to ponder, wondering, "Why did I pass the exam but fail the interviews?" The only reason was that my English skills were inadequate, and I could only introduce myself and answer the questions a little during those two interviews. As a result, I decided to learn and focus more on English by cycling to study in the church (near Phsar Doeum Kor), about 9 km from my accommodation, and learning from friends on a regular basis because I could not afford the tuition fee. I told myself that I would put my dream on hold until I could improve my English skills in order to be best prepared for a master's scholarship in the UK.

Although it took years to develop my ability to meet all of the requirements for this scholarship, my dream remained ingrained in me, along with the motivation of my mom, who was always there for me and reminded me, "you can do it." On August 2, 2021, I applied for the UK Government Scholarship through the Chevening programme to study for a master's degree in the UK because I was confident that I could meet all of the requirements, which included work experience, potential leadership skills, effective networking skills, concrete career plans, and English proficiency.

Due to the prestigious nature of the Chevening scholarship, each candidate had to go through several stages, including writing an application (four essays), a face-to-face interview at the British Embassy in Cambodia, and university admissions. The most painful, anxious, and memorable stage of the scholarship for me was applying for university admissions, which I did not expect to be challenged by at all.

Following the interview results, each candidate was required to obtain at least one unconditional offer letter from each of the three chosen universities. Then, one of my three universities withdrew my application because the deposit payment had expired (I requested the extension twice already). 14 days were insufficient time to contact the university in the UK to get admissions accepted. One week later, one of my two universities rejected my application, despite my best efforts to negotiate and explain why I didn't meet one of my criteria. Less options, more pressure and stress! If I did not receive an unconditional offer from my last university, my Chevening scholarship would be withdrawn. Fortunately, my last university confirmed to issue me the offer letter, where I could meet all the Chevening requirements.

I've Chosen for Chevening
To cut a long story short, despite the fact that this scholarship was highly competitive and complicated, with many stages, I am proud and over the moon to share that I have been #ChosenForChevening to pursue a master’s degree in the UK for the cohort 2022-2023. I’m greatly honored to be on the top 2%-3% among over 64,000 applicants worldwide, spanning more than 141 countries. This achievement would not have been possible without the consistent support of all individuals, including seniors, mentors, lecturers, friends, and family. A heartfelt thanks to Chevening Awards, British Embassy Cambodia, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and my universities in Cambodia, and UK university for this opportunity. It should be noted that universities in the UK have very strict recruitment policies as thousands of students apply for admission each year. Finally, I would like to encourage those who wish to further their studies in the UK to be well prepared to apply for a Chevening Scholarship this year and in the future. I am more than delighted to share with and support those who aspire to apply for this exceptionally prestigious scholarship.

Again and again, be well-prepared, persistent, and determined to be the next person to hold this #ChosenForChevening poster.

Top Skills to Boost Your Resume

What are the top skills that employers look for in 2021? Do you aspire to get ready for the career opportunity? The skills demands have been always changed due to the rapid advancement of technology in society. The majority of employers look for the potential candidates who are able to fulfill the assigned tasks. Therefore, the candidates may need to level up both hard and soft skills. So as to immediately boost your resume, the five important skills are introduced with authentic elaboration.

1. Creativity

CREATIVITY is one of the most critical skills that Artificial Intelligence-AI would never be able to replace. Having strong creative skills basically means that you can combine diverse sources of knowledge to come up with a new idea that is more practical and useful. You must think creatively as an employee in order to produce more effective and efficient outcomes.

2. Presentation and Public Speaking

Both local and international corporates need employees who are able to present their products or services to clients effectively and efficiently. Having dynamically convincing skills with interactive, easy-to-understand demonstration along with robust communication is a compulsorily needed skill for all sorts of jobs.

3. Teamwork

It is a group's collective effort to accomplish a shared purpose or complete a task in the most successful and productive manner that is referred to as teamwork. This idea is seen in the context of a team, which is a group of interdependent people who work together to achieve a common goal. Being a team player is crucially vital to produce top-notch productivity. Every humankind can work as a team, but somehow he/she cannot exactly aware of how to cope with the intensity of the conflict. Moreover, working collaboratively is the best way for the development of the company. Without teamwork, the tasks will be postponed, and this will automatically affect the quality of work.

4. Communication

It is the act of establishing meaning among entities or groups through the use of mutually understood signs, symbols, and semiotic conventions. Having an effective communication skill really benefits you due to the fact that you are commonly required to get the tasks done through only one common tool which is called "COMMUNICATION".

5. Management and Leadership

Lastly, yet importantly, some people think that only manager/supervisor levels could need management and leadership skills. In reality, however, every humankind should have these skills to boost their working performance and to be ready to get promoted. More importantly, you should learn leadership and management skills to showcase the potential employers so as to concisely prove you can definitely help their business growth. How can you enhance your leadership and management skills? You can absolutely develop these skills through voluntary work, attending seminars/workshops, or even watching or listening to leadership executives who always share on social networking sites, Youtube in particular.

To summarize, the five demonstrated skills are undeniably necessary for all applicants to attract prospective employers and readily prepare themselves to obtain a good job with a well-paid salary. As a result, simply committing to improving these skills would automatically turn your BIG DREAM into reality.
